What are we? Convener and catalyst. The Foundation's long-term vision is to tackle issues related to uses of medical imaging and radiation therapy to benefit the public by being a convener and catalyst, as well as a knowledge resource. Who are we? ABRF Board of Directors:
William R. Hendee, Ph.D., is an internationally renowned radiation physicist who has held unique positions in radiology and nuclear medicine usually only held by physicians. From 2002 to 2004, he served as the first non-physician president of the American Board of Radiology. He currently is distinguished professor of radiology, radiation oncology, biophysics and population health at the Medical College of Wisconsin and is editor of Medical Physics. Dr. Hendee has been a director of the American Board of Health Physics and is past president of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, and the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. He has authored or co-authored more than 400 scientific articles and 24 books. In 2007 he was awarded the Radiological Society of North America's gold medal. He has also received the gold medal from the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS)and the William D. Coolidge medal from AAPM.
